Western Alaska Copper & Gold Corporation is an Alaskan based company that is focused in the Illinois Mining District of Western Alaska. The company is engaged in exploring and developing its Round Top and Honker Gold deposits into significant mineral producers.

Kit Marrs, MS Economic Geology

Founder, Director and Chairman, President

Kit Marrs is the founder and President of Western Alaska Copper & Gold. He has more than 25 years experience in mineral exploration and development, property evaluation and project financing in Alaska and Mexico. Kit Marrs has worked for major mining companies and consulting firms including Anaconda Minerals Co., Kennecott/Bear Creek Mining, Watts Griffis & McQuat, and Penoles, SA de CV. In 1981, he was the project geologist for the Illinois Creek/Round Top Project for Anaconda Minerals Co. and directed the exploration program at Round Top. He has extensive experience in formulating, financing, permitting and implementing real estate development projects and joint venture developments with values of $10-30 million. His combined experience in both geologic exploration and development in Alaska and real estate project financing, permitting and development gives Kit Marrs a unique set of skills to lead this company. Kit holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Arizona and received his Master of Science degree in Geology from the University of Arizona in 1979. Kit currently serves on the University of Arizona, Department of Geosciences Advisory Board.

Joan Marrs, M Ed

Founder, Director, VP Administration/Land

Joan Marrs has worked numerous years in both Anaconda Minerals Co. exploration camps in the Ambler District of N. Alaska and since 2009 at WAC&G's Illinois Creek base camp. Joan currently manages several large real estate properties for her family's private companies and has served on a number of non-profit boards. She brings multiple years of experience working in mineral exploration programs in Alaska during the 1980's. In the more than 20 years in her leadership role as an educational administrator, Ms. Marrs managed budgets in excess of $2 million and led an organization of more than 200 employees. She holds a Masters in Education from the University of Arizona.

Gary Jones, MS Geophysics

Director and Vice Chairman

Gary worked in SE Alaska for US Borax on regional mineral exploration and the Quartz Hill project after graduating from the UA with a BSc. in Geological Engineering before returning to the UA for a MSc in Geophysics and embarking on a career in the seismic industry.  Gary worked his way through the ranks at Western Geophysical, eventually serving as President.  He also was President at Baker Atlas, a well logging company, and WesternGeco, the $2 BUSD seismic division of Schlumberger before leaving to pursue a second career in start up company work.  Gary has invested in or served on the board of 7 start up companies, mostly in the geological and geophysical technology sector, including serving as past Chairman of ARKeX, Novadrill & Ingrain.  Gary, currently serving as Director at Ingrain and Chairman of Wireless Seismic, has extensive experience in helping start-up CEO's build high performance teams, raising capital and executing successful growth plans.

Greg Anderson


Mr. Anderson is an attorney whose practice focuses on business organization and commercial transactions. Mr. Anderson received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, his J.D. from the University of Arizona and has had his own law practice since 1984.

Joe Piekenbrock

Chief Exploration Officer

Mr. Piekenbrock brings over 35 years of experience to the mining exploration and development industry where he has managed all aspects of exploration from grassroots discovery through feasibility. From 2003 to 2011, he served as Vice President, Exploration, for NovaGold Resources and more recently served as Senior Vice President of Exploration for NovaCopper. He had extensive experience throughout Latin America while working for Placer Dome and was one of the founding members of Brett Resources. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the Cominco Alaska exploration team responsible for the discovery of the Whistler Cu deposit, the Sleitat Sn deposit, the Shotgun Au deposit and the giant Pebble Cu/Au deposit. After joining the Nova group of companies in 2003, he was been instrumental in leading a series of major discoveries including the Donlin Creek Au deposit, the Bornite Cu and the Galore Creek Cu/Au porphyry deposit in Alaska and British Columbia. He was awarded the Thayer Lindsley medal for International Discovery in 2009 for his role in the discovery of the Donlin Creek deposit and the Colin Spence award for International Discovery in 2015 for his contributions to the discovery of South Reef deposit at Bornite. Mr. Piekenbrock holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in geology from the University of Colorado, and a Master of Science degree in economic geology from the University of Arizona.
